Bhagirath / भगीरथ

Bhagirath was a king of the solar dynasty, great-great-grandson of Sagar, king of Ayodhya, son of Dilip and father of Kakutsth. He brought down the sacred Ganga from heaven to Earth by performing severe penance, and then conducted this river through the ocean down to Patal (under water world), to purify the ashes of his ancestors, the 60,000 sons of Sagar.
