According to Agunttarnikai, Baudh Granth, there were 16 main regions – Avanti, Ashmak or Assak, Anga, Kamboj, Kashi, Kuru, Koshal, Gandhar, Chedi, Vajji or Vraji, Vats or Vansh, Panchal, Magadh, Matsya or Machcha, Sursen or Shursen. Dr. Vasudevsharan Agarwal’s opinion is that in Indian history, the time from 500 B.C. to 100 B.C. is said “Janpad Yug” or “Mahajanpad Yug”. According to some historians, it was a tribe which conquered Braj at around 600-700 B.C. and promoted worshipping Krishna to mingle with the locals culture.
