Tara / तारा

  • Tara was a daughter of the monkey-chief Sushen.
  • She was married to the monkey-king Bali of Kishkindha and had a son named Angad.
  • She was a good wife to Bali and always gave him sound advice. She was a very wise and far-sighted counsellor.
  • Whatever she foretold was bound to happen. When Sugriv challenged Bali to battle for the second time, she tried to stop him, knowing that Sugriv had support of Ram and Lakshman.
  • But Bali ignored her pleas and left for the fight which resulted in his death. Before dying, he handed over the care of his son and wife to Sugriv.
  • Sugriv was also advised by Bali, not to disregard the advice of Tara on any matter.
