Bharat King / भरत राजा

  • Bharat was son of king Dushyant and Shakuntala.
  • He was born in the hermitage of sage Kanva.
  • It was after him that India was called Bharatvarsh.
  • He did not have any heir, so he prayed to the Marut gods to grant him a son.
  • The maruts gave him a son called Vitath. And though he was not Bharat’s own son, he continued the race and is an ancestor of the Kauravs and Pandavs.
