Chhata / छाता

Another name of this village is Chhatravan.
Chhata is a village of Mathura district.
Chhata is situated on the Mathura–Delhi highway, NH-2, approximately twenty miles north-west of Mathura and four miles south-west of Paya-gaon.
It lies between the parallels of 27°33', and 27°56'N. and 77°17' and 77°42,E
Possibly an inn of the time of Shershah that appears to be a fortress.
In the north-east corner of this village lies Surya Kund, and in its south-west is Chandra Kund, on whose bank a temple of Dauji is situated.
Here, Shridham and the other sakhas seated Shri Krishna on a throne and declared Him the exalted king (chhatra-pati) of Braj. They thus performed a wonderful unprecedented pastime here. Shri Balram sat on Krishna's left side, and began executing the duties of minister of state. Shridham held an umbrella over Krishna's head; Arjuna fanned Him with a camara; Madumangal sat in front of Krishna and acted as court jester; Subala offered Him betel-nuts; and Subahu, Vishala and some other sakhas assumed the roles of subjects. Through Madhumangal, Chhatra-pati Maharaja Krishna proclaimed throughout the land, "Maharaja Chatra-pati Nandkumar is the sole emperor here. No one else has claim to any authority. Daily the gopis destroy this garden; therefore, they should all be punished." In this way, Shri Krishna and His friends sported in this playful way.
