Mahishasur / महिषासुर

Mahishasur was a son of the demon Rambh by a female buffalo, who has been granted the boon he could not be killed by a Dev or an Asur.
Mahishasur had become arrogant on account of the boon, and he soon expelled the gods from heaven and become the undisputed lord of the three worlds.
Knowing that he could only be killed by a woman, Durga assumed the form of a beautiful damsel with eighteen arms.
When Mahishasur saw her he fell immediately in love with her, and wanted to marry her, but was told by Durga that she would marry the person who defeated her in battle.
A terrific battle took place in which Mahishasur was killed by Durga.
