  • Panchal is identified with the modern Rohilkhand.
  • Panchal was originally the country north and west of Delhi, from the foot of the Himalaya to the river Chambal, but it was afterwards divided into North and South Panchal separated by the Ganges.
  • The capital of the latter was Ahicchatra, and that of the former was Kampilya.
  • King Drupad was king of Panchal. Later, Arjun conquered the kingdom and gave it as Gurudakshina to Dron.
  • The latter retained South Panchal, and the northern half he returned to Drupad.
