Sampati

Sampati / सम्पाती

Sampati was a vulture, son of Arun by his wife Shyeni and the elder brother of Jatayu.
When Sampati burnt his wings, he fell down among the Vindhya mountains near the hermitage of sage Nishakar, who tended him.
Sampati did not recover completely enough to fly again. So he stayed there for many years serving the sage till the latter's death.
One day, Hanuman and other monkeys had arrived there in search of Sita, when they met Sampati.
On telling them of Ravan's and Sita's whereabouts, Sampati regained his health, as Nishakar had predicted.
