Sampati / सम्पाती
- Sampati was a vulture, son of Arun by his wife Shyeni and the elder brother of Jatayu.
- When Sampati burnt his wings, he fell down among the Vindhya mountains near the hermitage of sage Nishakar, who tended him.
- Sampati did not recover completely enough to fly again. So he stayed there for many years serving the sage till the latter's death.
- One day, Hanuman and other monkeys had arrived there in search of Sita, when they met Sampati.
- On telling them of Ravan's and Sita's whereabouts, Sampati regained his health, as Nishakar had predicted.
