Vayu / वायु

Vayu is a primary Hindu deity, the Lord of the winds, regent of the north-west quarter, where he resides.
He is also known as Vata, Pavana (the Purifier), and sometimes Prana the breath).
He was one of the eight Vasus, among whom, he was often referred to as Anil.
Vayu begot on Anjani a son named Hanuman.
When Hanuman was hurt by the Vajra of Indra, Vayu retreated with his son to Fatal, thus stopping life on earth. Only when the gods granted special boons to his son Hanuman that Vayu returned to earth.
Once, when Vayu saw the hundred beautiful daughters of king Kushnabh, he asked them to marry him. Though they refused politely, Vayu got angry and made all their limbs crooked. In the ancient times, when the mountains still had wings, Indra decided to clip their wings with his thunderbolt.
Vayu carried his friend, the mountain Mainak and hid him in the ocean. Kunti, the wife of Pandu invoked Vayu, who begot on her a son named Bhim.
Vayu had a daughter named Ila, whom he gave in marriage to king Dhruva.
Vayu also had a son, the sage Mankanak by his wife Sukanya.
By his wife Shiva, he had two sons, viz. Manojav and Avigyatgati.
During the burning of Tripur, Vayu installed himself in the feather of the arrow used by Shiv.
