Hiranyaksh / हिरण्याक्ष

  • Hiranyaksh was a Daitya, son of Kashyap by his wife Diti, and the twin-brother of Hiranyakashipu.
  • Strengthened by a boon from Brahma, he oppressed the three worlds, and then dragged Bhumi to the depths of the ocean.
  • Vishnu then took on his Varah incarnation, jumped from the sky into the ocean, and picked up Bhumi on his tusks from under the ocean and deposited her on the surface of the water.
  • He then fought Hiranyaksh and finally killed him.
