Nandganv / नन्दगाँव

The royal palace of Nand Maharaj, the king of Braj, is situated in Nand gaon. This village is a source of happiness because Shri Nand Ray (Nand Maharaj), Upanand, Abhinand, Sunand and Nandan all lived here.
(1) Nand gaon is situated sixteen miles north-west of Govardhan, eight miles south of Kosi and twenty-eight miles west of Vrindavan.
The parikrama of Nand gaon is four miles. There are fifty-six ponds related to Shri Krishna's various pastimes here and it takes about three to four days to have darsan of them all. Shankar pleased his worshipful deity Shri Krishna and asked for the boon to have darshan of Shri Krishna's childhood pastimes. The Supreme Lord Shri Krishna ordered him to situate himself in Nand gaon in the form of a hill.Shankar followed this order and became Nandisvar Hill. He then waited for the arrival of his worshipful deity. To fulfil the desire of the exalted Vaisnav Shankar, Krishna performed His sweet childhood and boyhood pastimes on Nandisvar Hill, along with the Brajvasis like Nand , Yashoda and His gopa friends. At the end of Dvapar Yug, there lived a sage named Devamidha. He had two wives, one from a kshatriya family and the other from a gopa family. Surasen was born from the kshatriya wife, and Parjanya Gopa from his gopa wife. Vasudev and other kshatriya sons were born from Surasen. Parjanya Gopa maintained his life by agriculture and rearing cows. He lived near Nandisvar Hill with his wife Variyasi Gopi. Once, Devrishi Narad came there, and Parjanya Gopa pleased him by offering him appropriate worship. He then requested Narad to bless him with excellent progeny. Narad initiated him into the Lakshmi Narayan mantra and informed him, "By meditating upon this mantra you will have illustrious progeny." When Narad left, Parjanya Gopa set about repeating this mantra in his mind. Daily, he would meditate upon it following the proper process, after first taking his bath in the nearby Tadaga-tirth. One day while he was absorbed in the mantra, a divine voice from the sky announced, "O Parjanya, you are very fortunate to have performed one-pointed worship of Me. You will have five highly qualified sons. Of these, the middle son, Nand, will be greatly fortunate. All victorious Shri Hari Himself, who is fully endowed with the six kinds of opulences and who gives pleasure to all living beings, will appear as his son." Upon hearing this divine announcement, Parjanya Gopa became overjoyed.
In due course of time, five sons and two daughters were born. Parjanya Gopa and his family stayed near Nandisvar Hill for some time longer, but, fearing the disturbances created by the Kesi demon, they left for Gokul Mahavan. There, the Supreme Lord Krishna chandra was born as the son of the middle brother, Nand . After some time, however, on account of the disturbances of Putana, Shakatasura, Trinavart and other demons, Nand Maharaj, together with his son, family members, relatives, cows, gopas and gopis, moved to Chhattikara village. After that they moved to Kamyavan, Khelanvan and other places before finally returning to live at Nandisvar (Nand gaon). Many of Krishna's childhood and boyhood pastimes took place here. It was from here that on Gopashtami day, Krishna and Balram along with the sakhas first went out to graze the calves, and after some years the cows.
