Somdatt / सोमदत्त
- Somdatt was a king of the Kuru Dynasty, son of Balhik and grandson of king Pratip.
- Somdatt had three sons, Bhuri, Bhurishrava and Shal. At the Svayamvar of Devki, Shini carried her away for Vasudev, after defeating the other kings present.
- Somdatt was one of them. In his battle with Shini, he lost, and the victor struck him with his foot.
- Somdatt was ashamed of his defeat and performed penance to please Shiv.
- The deity granted Somdatt the boon, that he would have a son, who would in a similar manner strike the grandson of Shini.
- This happened in the encounter between Bhurishrava and Satyaki during the Mahabharat war.
- Somdatt too fought on the side of the Kauravs and was slain by Satyaki.
