Meheran Gaon / मेहेरान गाँव

Meheran Gaon lies two miles west of Bhandokhor in area of Barsana. Shri Krishna's uncle Abhinandan Gopa lived here, and his cowshed was nearby. Abhinandan Gopa is the second eldest among Nand and his four brothers. Some people also consider this place to be the home of Yashoda's father. In the eastern part of this village is Kshirsagar. It is said that at midnight on Shiva Ratri, a stream of milk emanates from the middle of this pond, which is why it is named Kshirsagar, or "Ocean of Milk".

Story

Once, Yashoda-maiya and child Krishna came to the house of Abhinandan, Yashoda-maiya's elder brother-in-law. After dinner, Yashoda-maiya sat on the bed lulling Krishna to sleep in her lap. "Maiya, please tell a story," Krishna said. Yashoda proceeded to narrate a story as Krishna nodded and murmured, "Yes, yes." Yashoda said, "Once there was a king named Dashrath. He had four sons – Rama, Lakshman, Bharat and Shatrughna. Rama married Janaki, the daughter of Maharaja Janak. She was also known as Sita. On the order of His father, Rama went to the forest with His wife Sita and younger brother Lakshman." "Yes, yes," Krishna uttered. Yashoda-maiya continued, "In the forest, a demon named Ravana kidnapped Sita" Hearing this, Krishna, being absorbed in His previous incarnation as Rama, called out, "Lakshman, bring My bow! Lakshman, bring My bow!" and jumped up from bed. Seeing this made Yashoda-maiya fearful. This pastime took place here.
