Brahma purana / ब्रह्म पुराण
- Brahma purana is the first of the eighteen Puranas. Hence it is also called Adipuran.
- This Puran, which was related by Brahma to Marichi, is said to contain ten thousand stanzas, but the actual number is between seven and eight thousand.
- The Brahmapuran gives an account of the process of creation, the Manvantars and the history of the solar and lunar kings to the time of Krishna, which is followed by a brief description of the universe.
- Glories of Orissa, with its temples and sacred groves that are dedicated to Surya, Shiv and Jagannath, is followed by a short detail on the life of Krishna. It ends with the manner in which Yog is to be performed.
